Beyond the Table: Why I Chose Intuitive Bodywork over RMT Licensing

So this is a topic that I would like to address thoroughly. It comes up now and again, and recently was brought to my attention and so I think it suits a good blog post here, on my site, to reference and take up space.

For a long time, I wrestled with the idea of becoming a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). On the surface, it made sense—supposed credibility to claiming i’m a health professional, insurance coverage, a steady stream of clients who knew what to expect. But something in me kept saying no. Not out of fear. Not out of doubt. But because I knew what I was here to do would never fit inside a regulated box.

I love how every session i’m taking in the person as a whole system, beyond muscles, injury, claims, complaints, I can create my own pathway to the process of cultivating a peace and presence. I can use my own verbiage, my own intuition, my own methods.

I can blend the diverse trainings I do have into a seamless flowing art of massage.

I didn’t choose the RMT path because the work I offer goes deeper than muscle fibers and clinical protocols. It listens to the stories the body can’t put into words. It allows for a sacred conversation between touch, memory, energy, and emotion.

And that kind of work—while profoundly effective—isn’t permitted within the legal scope of RMT practice in British Columbia.

So here’s why I’m not an RMT. And why that’s exactly the point.

The Healing I Offer Isn’t Meant to Be Reduced to a Clinical Framework

RMTs in BC operate under strict regulation.

Their sessions must adhere to a therapeutic and evidence-based model, focusing on the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunction.

That means:

No energy healing

No intuitive guidance

No somatic emotional processing

No spiritual elements

No sound, scent, or light healing unless proven and prescribed

Everything must be documented clinically, measurable in outcomes, and restricted to what insurance deems billable. If a client cries during a session, an RMT must steer the focus back to the physical body. If energy shifts, it cannot be named.

I honor RMTs and the powerful work they dobut that’s not my calling. My work invites you to feel, soften, remember, and reconnect. To release what your nervous system has armored against. To meet yourself, fully.

What I Offer Instead: Freedom to Follow the Body’s Intelligence

As a non-RMT, I’m free to:

Blend touch with intuitive energy work, somatic awareness, and subtle unwinding, blend my modalities, create and incorporate combined knowledge awareness and trainings into a single session.

Incorporate sound, light, scent, and breath into your experience

Honor emotional release without needing to explain or suppress it

I can follow your body’s energetic blueprint, not just its muscles

Let the session become what your system is truly asking for

I’m not limited to what can be charted or reimbursed. I’m devoted to what is real. What is felt. What is true.

I Don’t Bill Insurance — and That’s a Good Thing

When you book with me, you’re not just checking off a self-care box on your insurance plan. You’re saying yes to a deeper form of healing. One that doesn’t need permission to be powerful. One that isn’t measured in units but in presence, resonance, and return-to-self.

You’re choosing to invest in your wholeness. That investment liberates us both. It allows me to be fully with you—not bound by forms, but guided by intuition and connection.

Beyond Relaxation: What Intuitive Bodywork Offers

Clients who come to me often say:

"That was unlike any massage I’ve ever had."

"I felt like my whole nervous system finally exhaled."

"I didn’t even know I needed to cry."

"It felt like my body was speaking to you."

This is not spa massage. It’s not clinical rehabilitation. It’s something else entirely.

It’s being held in a space that doesn’t ask you to perform, explain, or fix anything. A space where the body becomes a compass, and safety becomes the medicine. Where presence—not protocol—is the true method.

Why It Matters

In a world of rush, regulation, and performance, we need spaces that allow us to simply be. To unravel. To exhale.

By choosing this path, I’m choosing you. Your realness. Your stories. Your body’s wisdom.

And I’m choosing me—my integrity, my intuitive knowing, and the sacred responsibility I feel when someone places their healing in my hands.

I’m not an RMT.

I’m not here to treat your injury.

I’m here to meet your system where it is.

To witness it.

To listen.

To offer a touch that doesn’t try to fix you—but reminds you that you’re already whole.

This is not less than. This is not unqualified. This is the medicine that lives in the space between. Beyond the table. And within the field of true healing.

Thank you for trusting me to walk that path with you.
