Your body isn’t in the way - it IS the way
When You Stop Bracing, You Start Healing
Biokinetic | Massage and Somatic Integration | Victoria, BC
We’re taught to push through.
To stay upright, hold it together, and carry on — no matter what the body says.
I know I personally have had to learn to get myself out of this mode of constant doing, of achieving to make myself have moments of relaxation from a sense of having “earned it”
But what if the answer isn’t in doing more?
What if the real shift begins the moment you stop bracing?
This is the moment the body softens. The thoughts soften. Time stills. You are present. You are enough.
This is where healing lives.
Your Body Isn’t in the Way — It Is the Way
Your body isn’t an obstacle to overcome — it’s a portal to return through.
Notice even right now, the gripping, behind the eyes, the jaw, the belly, the feet perhaps.
Every ache, every wave of tension, every breath held too long... it's your body speaking.
Not malfunctioning. Not broken. Not behind.
It's guiding you back.
Back to sensation.
Back to presence.
Back to the ground of you.
At Biokinetic, this is where we begin. We begin the shift out of survival, flight, fight, freeze, hide. You can first of all recognize you are possibly living from this place. This place of nervous system functionality is non conducive to being able to thrive, it’s simply a mechanistic way you’ve learned how to survive. To be bracing (non intentionally, this is a subconscious state from pre disposed circumstances, often trauma) for the next threat. When given time, space and possibly the newfound sensation of trust, you can sense the difference in the quality of life. The nervous system, lets go, maybe just a little at first, but a little is alot when its a new state, a new resonance, it’s enough, to realize there is a difference, and it’s yours to embrace.
Nervous System Work Isn’t Passive. It’s Powerful.
This work isn’t about performance.
It’s about presence.
It’s not about forcing change.
It’s about creating the conditions for safety, so the body can shift on its own.
That’s what we do together — through intuitive massage, somatic awareness, and breath-led release.
The softening isn’t weakness — it’s recalibration.
You don’t need to try harder.
You need space to land.
Breath is the First Anchor
Before there’s relief, there’s breath.
Before the muscle releases, there’s permission.
Before the mind lets go, the body must feel safe.
I believe it’s important to start our sessions out with an awareness of breath. To unhinge the jaw, to fully breath into the body, expand in the full range, front/back/side to side.
Then, I will always suggest you return to your natural breath, no forcing, no effort, just noticing. This is often a new notcing for people. And in this noticing so much subtleties can happen!
I also suggest you sense your heartbeat, maybe you can hear your heart, feel your heart as a gentle rhythm, again the noticing is part of dropping into the safety, you are in a place of support, safety, timelessness to be
The most healing work often begins quietly:
With the breath.
With stillness.
With the feeling that you don’t need to be “on” right now.
This is the atmosphere I create in every session at Biokinetic — a safe space where your system can shift out of survival and into stability.
What’s Possible When You Stop Bracing
Deeper rest
Emotional release
Connection to your intuitive body
Less pain, more energy
A grounded, supported sense of being
This work isn't just physical — it's cellular.
Your body remembers how to feel good.
We just create the right conditions for that memory to rise.
You’re Allowed to Let Go
Let go of the tension.
The expectation.
The unconscious gripping.
The need to keep proving.
Here, you’re not being fixed — you’re being met.
